(NS SPCA) Weekly Highlight – Gray Jay

Gray Jay, a stunning merle border collie, is hoping his new forever family is out there. At around 5 years young he is seeking a dog savvy family able to help him live his new and improved life.

Because of Gray Jay’s specific needs, it can take a few weeks of slow introductions and visits to determine whether an applicant may be the perfect fit for this handsome guy. Gray is looking for a very specific home! Please thoroughly read to make sure you will be the right fit before applying.

Gray is looking for an adult only, dog savvy home. A HOME WITH AT LEAST ONE OTHER YOUNGER OR PLAYFUL DOG IS A MUST! A home in a quiet or rural neighbourhood/street with a fenced in backyard would be ideal. This gorgeous guy gets along well with the other dogs and cats at his foster home but does take time and multiple meet and greets to be friendly. He can be tentative and uncomfortable around unfamiliar dogs and does not enjoy off-leash dog parks or similar situations where socialization with unfamiliar dogs is required.
Gray is house trained, crate trained and generally quiet in his crate but will bounce and bark to greet family members coming home. Gray Jay has had a history of being significantly reactive with approaching dogs while on-leash. In his current foster home this has only been witnessed once in 4 months with the help of pro-active management and rewarding him for staying calm.

Interested adopters please understand that adopting Gray could be a slower process, multiple meet and greets and home visits will be necessary for long term success.

If interested in adding Gray Jay to your home please apply here and select HRM ARC centre as the location: http://www.novascotiaspca.ca/dog-adoption-application/
