Police charge woman in two arsons

Police have charged a woman in relation to two arsons at the same building in Halifax.

On March 10 at approximately 4:10 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a fire inside an apartment building in the 5500 block of Victoria Road. Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency extinguished the fire, and no one was injured. The fire was deemed to be intentionally set.

On April 5 at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a fire inside the same apartment building. Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency extinguished the fire, and no one was injured. Initially the fire appeared to be accidental, but upon further investigation, the fire was deemed to be intentionally set.

Yesterday, investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation arrested a suspect in relation to both fires. A 64-year-old Halifax woman was charged with two counts of arson. She is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.
