**** Info via Hope for Wildlife
On the first day of spring Hope for Wildlife received our first red foxes of 2023, and they are infant orphans, weighing just 85 and 105 grams.
They were discovered after someone’s pet found the den and brought the little ones home. After an unsuccessful attempt to locate the mother we brought them in. They were slightly dehydrated and cold, but otherwise unharmed. Since they are too young to generate their own heat, they are in one of our ICU incubators, and every two hours they will be fed a specially-formulated milk that gives them the proper balanced nutrition they will need to grow.
Now that spring is here, please remember to keep a close eye on your pets during the spring and summer baby-raising months. Hundreds of millions of wild animals are killed each year in Canada as a result of our pets. Keeping dogs on a leash and cats indoors as much as possible helps a lot! It will also keep your pets safe from the protective mommas.
