Weekly Traffic Advisories (11 Apr)

Traffic Delay – Dutch Village Road

Location: Dutch Village Road, between Bayers Road and Supreme Court

Date: Tuesday, April 22 to mid-December 2025

Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, with weekend work as required

Work details: This work is to improve the safety and comfort of pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and drivers.

  • Sidewalk and bikeway upgrades: New sidewalks and bike lanes will be installed on both sides of Dutch Village Road within the project area.
  • Transit infrastructure upgrades: New concrete pads will be added to improve accessibility at bus stops.
  • Streetscaping enhancements: Trees, benches, garbage receptacles, and interpretive signage will be added to enhance the pedestrian experience.
  • Parking and traffic calming: Existing parking spaces will be replaced with on-street parallel parking and lane widths will be reduced to help calm traffic and improve safety.

Traffic impacts: Access to businesses and properties will be maintained throughout the project; however, residents and commuters should expect the following traffic impacts:

  • Lane reductions and stop-and-go traffic within the project area
  • Temporary closures on side-streets to install new underground infrastructure
  • The sidewalk along Dutch Village Road will remain open for pedestrian use

Transit Impacts: This work will impact Halifax Transit routes 28 and 137. Throughout phases of this project, different bus stops along Dutch Village Road will be impacted and routes may be temporarily detoured.

Intersection Closure – Upper Water and Cogswell streets

Location: Intersection of Upper Water and Cogswell streets

Dates: Friday, April 18 to Tuesday April 22

Time: 24/7

Work details: This work is in support of the Cogswell District project. Crews will be installing the final underground infrastructure across the Cogswell Street and Upper Water Street intersection. This closure is in addition to the closure of Upper Water Street and Barrington Street from April 14 to May 5.

Traffic impact: Traffic along Upper Water Street will be detoured to Reconciliation Way.

Pedestrian and cyclist impact: Pedestrians and cyclists will be directed across the Cogswell and Upper Water Street intersection by traffic control.

Lane Closure – Lucasville Road

Location: Lucasville Road at the bridge over the Sackville River

Date: Monday, April 21 – September 2025

Time: 24/7

Work details: This work is to facilitate the rehabilitation of Lucasville Bridge. This is in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Temporary traffic signals will be installed to maintain access. Drivers should expect delays and use alternative routes.

Street Closure – Chebucto Road

Location: Chebucto Road, between Windsor and North streets

Date: Wednesday, April 16 to Wednesday, April 23

Time: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily

Work details: This work is in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: One-way closure for eastbound traffic between Windsor to North streets. Detour signs will be in place for incoming traffic with pedestrian access maintained. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained. Drivers should expect delays and use alternative routes.

Traffic Delay – Intersection of Almon and Agricola streets

Location: Almon Street, at intersection of Almon and Agricola streets

Date: Wednesday, April 16

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This work includes asphalt repair, in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: The traffic lights and signals at the intersection of Almon and Agricola streets will not be operational while work is underway. Stop-and-go traffic will be in place. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to take alternative routes whenever possible.

Traffic Delay – Barrington Street

Location: Barrington Street, between Sackville and Blowers streets

Date: Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6

Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily

Work details: This work is to facilitate safety inspection of the building facade at the corner of Barrington and Sackville streets.

Traffic impact: Traffic control personnel will be on site to guide motorists and pedestrians through the work area. Motorists should expect delays and are asking to use alternatives routes wherever possible.

Pedestrian Impact: Pedestrian wayfinding signage will be in place. Sidewalks that are impacted by the work will be closed. Pedestrians are asked to use alternative crosswalks to navigate around the project site.

Transit Impact: Transit stops will be open.

CONTINUING WORK

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Donaldson Bridge, French River

The Donaldson Bridge on Lake Road, about three kilometres west of Tatamagouche, is closed until further notice.

The detours are Trout Brook Road and Cooper Road.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Slade Road, Tatamagouche

Slade Road is closed between Lake Road and West Tatamagouche Road until further notice because of a bridge closure.

INVERNESS COUNTY: MacKay Bridge, Aberdeen

The MacKay Bridge on Highway 105, about 200 metres west of Route 223, will be reduced to one lane for repairs until Friday, May 16.

Work takes place from sunrise to sunset.

RICHMOND COUNTY: Port Royal Bridge, Isle Madame

The Port Royal Bridge on Port Royal Road is closed until further notice. A detour is in place on MacEachern Road.

YARMOUTH COUNTY: Pembroke Bridge, Yarmouth

Pembroke Bridge on Pembroke Road will be closed for replacement until Sunday, August 31.

Detour signs are in place.
