Over the past two weeks, I’ve had time to reflect on the election outcome and what it means for our party and for me personally.
First, thank you to everyone who has reached out with kind words of support and encouragement. It means so much to me and my family.
This election sent a clear message, and as leader, I take full responsibility for the result. Earlier today, I submitted my resignation to Party President Margaret Miller. The board will now determine the next steps for a future leadership race and announce plans in the new year.
In the meantime, I’m proud to be leaving the party in capable hands. Both Derek Mombourquette and Iain Rankin have agreed to serve as interim leader until a leadership race is held, splitting their time evenly. Effective today, Derek Mombourquette is our party’s interim leader. His experience and commitment to our party will guide us through this next chapter of reflection and renewal.
To our incredible candidates, MLAs, volunteers, and staff: your passion and dedication to our party is deeply appreciated. And to my hometown of Yarmouth, thank you for giving me the privilege of representing you for the past 14 years.
I don’t know what my future holds, but I’m looking forward to spending more time at home with my wife Katie and our family. To my two beautiful daughters, Cecelia and Eva, daddy is so excited to be home more with you girls!
While I’m stepping back, I’ll always be cheering for our party, our province, and the amazing people who live here.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
