In photos – HRFE HAZMAT training took part with Brenntag in Dartmouth as a realistic scenario saw real strategy save the day!

HRFE crews train for all scenarios, and today saw a complicated chemical spill put lives and environmental risks in play.

Upon arrival, crews met with Brenntag staff to begin vital information gathering.

They were given an idea as to the situation while a safe area was established and set up, including a vital decontamination stage.

Other crews took to prepare for ng suits and other gear while the drone was deployed, providing a very fast and safe recon of the situation which was displayed on a screen in the safe zone.

Crews gathered for briefings which included info from the staff and live view of the scene, resulting in a plan for search, rescue and containment.

Two crews were prepared for the on scene task. The first crew ensured that the leaks were contained and relayed vital information back to command. After returning, they were decontaminate safely and medically checked.

The second team double checked decontamination and ensured the area was safe. Both teams used specialized tools of the trade to meter air quality and other important tasks.
