Hope for Wildlife has a unique orphan in their care – A piebald fawn

**** Info via Hope for Wildlife

A rare patient!

The other day we received an orphaned piebald white-tailed fawn. Piebald deer are the result of a rare genetic mutation that causes random patches of their skin to lack the pigment which gives deer their typical brownish colouring.

While it’s an uncommon condition, it’s not as rare as albinism – where there is a complete lack of coloration in the all of their skin, their hair, and their eyes.

Aside from being a bit on the thin side, she’s otherwise healthy.

If you think you’ve come across an injured or orphaned wild animal, the first thing to do is make sure the animal needs help. Please visit our Wildlife SOS page.
