Meteghan RCMP Detachment arrest driver impaired by drugs

Meteghan RCMP Detachment arrest a man after he was found unconscious behind the wheel of a motor vehicle in Concession.

On April 25, at approximately 6:48 a.m., Meteghan RCMP Detachment assisted by Southwest Nova Traffic Services, fire, and EHS attended Hwy. 101, responding to a man who was found unconscious behind the wheel of a black Dodge RAM.

RCMP officers spoke to the man who was going in and out of consciousness. Officers quickly noted the man was showing signs of impairment by drugs. The driver was arrested and transported to the Yarmouth RCMP Detachment where he was assessed by EHS and then underwent a sobriety test conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) which he failed.

Following his arrest, officers located 1.5 kg of elvers in the man’s vehicle. RCMP officers contacted Fisheries and Oceans Canada; fishery officers attended the scene and seized the elvers.

Marcus Stephen Gehue, 32, from Indian Brook, will be facing charges of:

  • Operation While Impaired by Drugs
  • Obstructs a Peace Officer

The impaired investigation is ongoing, additional charges are anticipated.

Any questions related to the investigation under the Fisheries Act should be directed to Fisheries and Oceans Canada
