Northeast RCMP Traffic Services – Cape Breton charge man with drug trafficking
Northeast RCMP Traffic Services – Cape Breton, has charged a man from Clarenville, Newfoundland, with drug trafficking.
On March 2, as a result of an ongoing investigation and tips received from the public, Northeast RCMP Traffic Services – Cape Breton, with assistance from Service Nova Scotia’s Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division, Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia (CISNS) and RCMP Police Dog Services, intercepted a commercial tractor trailer on Hwy. 105 in North Sydney and executed a search warrant.
During the search, officers located and seized 760,000 contraband cigarettes with an estimated tax value of $250,000, approximately $30,000 in cash and over 3,000 methamphetamine pills, destined for Newfoundland and Labrador.
Robert Trent Smith, 49, from Clarenville, Newfoundland has been charged with Possession with a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and Selling of Unauthorized Tobacco Products.
