Meteghan RCMP seeking information from the public in attempted arson investigation
Meteghan RCMP is investigating an attempted arson after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a residence in Meteghan.
This morning, at approximately 4:50 a.m., Meteghan RCMP responded to a report of shots fired and a suspected fire at a home on Hwy. 1.
Upon arrival at the residence, RCMP officers quickly confirmed that no shots were fired, but that a window had been smashed and a Molotov cocktail had been thrown at the home, quickly extinguishing itself.
No one was injured in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, with assistance of the RCMP Forensic Identification Services. At this time, investigators do not believe the incident was random.

South Shore Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit charge two men with drug offences
The South Shore Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit has charged two men with drug offences after a targeted traffic stop in Mahone Bay.
On March 6, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers of the South Shore Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit, with the assistance of the Lunenburg District RCMP, the Bridgewater Police Criminal Investigation Division and the Criminal Intelligence Services of Nova Scotia, completed a targeted traffic stop on a silver Dodge Caravan at the corner of Hwy. 3 and Main St. in relation to an ongoing drug investigation.
The two occupants of the vehicle were arrested without incident. During a search, officers then found and seized cocaine and sensory irritant.
Colan Foster Lohnes, 39, and Kirk John Bishop, 35, have been charged with:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking
Both accused appeared yesterday in Bridgewater Provincial Court and were remanded into custody.
Lohnes will return in court on March 27, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. and Bishop will be appearing in court today.
The investigation is ongoing.

Police lay robbery charges
Halifax Regional Police has laid charges in relation to three robberies that occurred in the region yesterday.
At approximately 4:50 a.m. a suspect entered the Irving gas station, located at 2499 Robie Street in Halifax, and stated that they had a knife and demanded money. The suspect fled the area on foot with an amount of cash. The employee was not physically injured.
At approximately 9:45 a.m. a suspect matching the description from the earlier robbery entered the Irving gas station located at 219 Pleasant Street in Dartmouth. The suspect stated they had a knife and demanded money. The suspect fled the area on foot with an amount of cash. The employee was not physically injured.
At approximately 6:05 p.m. a suspect matching the description from the previous two robberies entered the Irving gas station located at 6515 Quinpool Road in Halifax. The suspect stated they had a knife and demanded money. The suspect fled the area on foot with an amount of cash. The employee was not physically injured.
At approximately 11:45 p.m., officers arrested the suspect at police headquarters, located at 1975 Gottingen Street, when the suspect turned themselves into police.
Katherine Ethyl Bagnald, 21, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face three counts of robbery.
