Driver flees scene of collision, threatens police with knife

On July 27 at approximately 7 p.m.,​ Kings District RCMP responded to a 911 call reporting a two-vehicle collision on Nichols Ave. One driver fled the scene on foot. The remaining driver was provided first aid by bystanders at the scene, and was later transported by ambulance to hospital for further treatment.​

Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the​ driver who fled the area. An RCMP officer located him nearby.​ When the RCMP officer told the​ suspect he was under arrest for leaving the scene of a collision,​ the suspect pulled a knife out of his pocket and threatened the police officer with it. The police officer used a conducted energy weapon to bring the suspect under control and was able to handcuff him without further incident. No one was injured.

The suspect, a 42-year-old man from Upper Dyke, Kings County, is facing charges of:

  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Obstruction (Resisting Arrest)
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Failure to Stop at the Scene of a Collision

He will appear in Kentville Provincial Court at a later date.
