**** HHB Release
⚠️ATTENTION DRIVERS⚠️
The Macdonald Bridge will be closed this coming weekend, August 25-28, to allow crews to complete a bearing replacement.
The bridge will close to traffic at 7 p.m. on Aug. 25 and is scheduled to reopen on Monday, Aug. 28 at 5:30 a.m.
Both the bike lane and sidewalk will also be closed at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25 for approximately three hours, as the bridge deck needs to be jacked up for the bearing replacement. Once the bridge is safely jacked up, the bike lane and sidewalk will reopen. The active transportation lanes will also be closed from 12 a.m. to 3 a.m. Monday while the bridge is being lowered back down.
Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to plan ahead and find an alternative route for that time.
The bearings are critical in allowing the bridge deck to move slightly as vehicles pass over.
During this weekend’s closure, the activity won’t be visible as on other weekends when work like paving is underway, as the crews will be operating underneath the bridge deck. A significant portion of time is also dedicated to allowing concrete to cure before vehicles can safely be allowed to travel on the bridge deck.
All closures and maintenance work is weather dependent and subject to change.
