UPDATE: Kings District RCMP determines suspicious device is not an explosive
Kings District RCMP has determined that the suspicious device sitting on a trail in the woods in Greenwood, is not an explosive.
At approximately 9:50 a.m. this morning, Kings District RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious device sitting on a trail in the woods near Oak Ave. and Fales River Dr. RCMP officers secured the area and evacuated nearby homes as a precaution. For those who were physically unable to evacuate, our officers advised them to shelter in place.
The Nova Scotia RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit responded to the scene and examined the device. The device was determined to be a container used in “Geocaching” recreational activities and is not an explosive.
Fales River Dr., Argus Dr. and Oak Ave. have been reopened. Residents who were evacuated can return home and our officers have advised those who were sheltering in place that there is no longer a need to do so as the area is safe.
We would like to thank residents of Greenwood and the public for their cooperation and patience as we investigated this incident. We would also like to remind the public that when engaging in recreational activities, to please ensure that any containers that they leave unattended, do not resemble explosive devices.
