It’s that time of year again! It’s the Christmas Bird Count!

Started in 1900, the Christmas Bird Count is North America’s longest-running Citizen Science project. All day, on wintery days between December 14 and January 5, volunteers set out to count birds within a 24-km diameter circle that stays the same from year to year. We report on the birds we observe through a standardized process that allows researchers across the country to use the data generated and to better understand our feathered neighbours and their winter-time behaviours!

Inspired by the well-loved traditional Christmas Bird Count, the CBC4Kids engages new generations of young birders across North America. Join us for the 1st ever Peggy’s Cove CBC4Kids, on Dec 31st, 9am-11am, where we’ll teach young birders and their families how to identify common winter-time birds, practice using binoculars, and play bird-themed games.

Please do register in advance just so we can maintain safe numbers. Masks are required for check-in and for games/activities that may bring participants close together. The entire event will be spent outside so please dress in warm layers.
