Domestic Assault Charges Laid Against Cape Breton Regional Police Officer

The province’s independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) laid two charges of assault against Cst. Lawrence Doucette, a 52-year-old member of the Cape Breton Regional Police (CBRP).

On September 23, 2022, CBRP contacted SiRT about a domestic assault against a female by a CBRP officer. CBRP responded to the location and following a preliminary investigation, arrested the male. He was released without charge on an undertaking to refrain from contact with the female.

SiRT took over the investigation which resulted in two charges of assault being laid against Cst. Doucette on October 25 in Sydney Provincial Court. One relates to an incident alleged to have occurred in July 2022, and the second involves an incident alleged to have occurred on September 23, 2022.

Cst. Doucette is due to appear in Provincial Court in Sydney on November 10, 2022.

The Serious Incident Response Team is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, which includes all allegations of domestic violence. All investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian interim director John Scott.
