Parrsboro Detachment, responded to a report of a kayaker in distress in the Minas Basin near Partridge Island

On July 14, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a member of the Cumberland County District RCMP – Parrsboro Detachment, responded to a report of a kayaker in distress in the Minas Basin near Partridge Island, Municipality of Cumberland. Recognizing the person needed immediate assistance, the officer checked with local residents to see if anyone had a boat that could be used to rescue the kayaker.

The RCMP officer located a man who could help. Together, they headed out on the water to attempt the rescue. The kayaker was located approximately 2km away from Partridge Island and was clinging to her kayak. She stated that she was uninjured and was pulled onto the boat by the RCMP officer. The boat owner then piloted the three of them back to shore where an ambulance was waiting to assess the kayaker.

The RCMP would like to thank the boat owner who quickly, and without hesitation, assisted our member in locating the kayaker and bringing her to safety.
