Municipal service level adjustments on Canada Day
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments for Canada Day.
Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services
A reminder that all Halifax Transit services (conventional bus, Access-A-Bus, Regional Express service and ferry) will be free on Friday, July 1. Alderney Ferry will be free on Saturday, July 2.
Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday (Sunday) service on July 1.
The Alderney Ferry service will operate on an amended schedule on July 1, which will include 30 minute service between 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 15 minute service between 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 p.m. There will be no Woodside ferry service on Canada Day. Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours
No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on July 1. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for July 1 will take place on July 2. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m. To ensure pick-up, residents may place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day. The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the municipal recycling plant and municipal composting facility will be closed on July 1 and will be open for regular hours on July 2.
The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on July 2 but will be open on July 9.
A mobile Household Special Waste Depot will be held on July 2 at Cole Harbour Place (51 Forest Hills Parkway, Cole Harbour) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.
Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services
Municipal splashpads and pools are open. The Bedford and Cole Harbour outdoor pools, the Halifax Common splashpad, and all supervised municipal beaches will open for the 2022 season on July 1. Residents are advised that, due to construction of the new Halifax Commons Aquatics Facility, the Halifax Common outdoor pool will remain closed for the 2022 season.
Equipment lending is open at the Emera Oval from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with equipment lending available if weather and surface conditions permit.
Many recreation facilities will be closed on July 1. Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information. Contact information for municipally-operated facilities can be found online.
Parking
On-street metered parking spaces are free on July 1; however, motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage such as accessible parking, fire hydrants and no stopping.
Customer Contact Centres
The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours on July 1 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The three Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on July 1, and will reopen for regular business hours on July 4.
Civic Events
The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting residents to participate in KANA’TA: Canada Day 2022 on July 1. Programming will include three separate, community-based fireworks and pyrotechnics shows in Halifax, Dartmouth, and Bedford.
