**** HRM Media Release

Traffic Delay – Waverley Road

Location: Waverley Road, between the Highway 102 Interchange and Lake Charles Drive

Date: Friday, April 29 to Wednesday, May 4

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: Trees along this route will be trimmed as part of the Halifax Regional Municipality Guide Rail Replacement Capital Project.

Traffic impact: Traffic will be reduced to one lane in certain sections as trees are trimmed. Stop-and-go traffic will be in place. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternative routes.​

Work details: This work involves preparation for the installation of a guiderail.

Traffic impact:​ Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternative routes whenever possible.​

Road Construction – Trunk 2 (Fall River)

Location: Trunk 2 (Fall River) from Fall River Road to Coach Avenue

Date:​ Thursday, April 28

Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Work details: This work is for pavement maintenance.​

Traffic impact: Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway.​ Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Argyle Street – Summer Road Closure

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that Argyle Street, between Prince and Blowers streets, will be closed to motor vehicle traffic beginning Thursday, April 28 at 7:30 a.m. until Monday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 a.m.

Argyle Street will remain​ fully open to people walking, rolling and cycling. Access to all stores and restaurants will be maintained.​ 

This is a seasonal closure, similar to previous years, and is intended to allow part of downtown to be more accessible for residents and visitors during the warmer months. It does not involve any construction.

Road Construction – Barrington Street

Location: Near 1919 Upper Water Street and surrounding area

Date: Tuesday, April 26 to Wednesday, August 31

Time: Weekdays 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with occasional weekend work.

Work details: This work is to install underground infrastructure in the vicinity of 1919 Upper Water Street (Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel) in support of the Cogswell District projectThis work is in preparation of construction of a by-pass road, which is expected to be in place in Summer 2022. ​

Traffic impact: The center line of the four lanes running north-south on Barrington Street through the Cogswell District will be altered so traffic will be diverted to the southbound lanes for bi-directional traffic. The northbound lanes will be closed to install underground infrastructure. One lane of bi-directional traffic will be maintained. Signs will direct traffic through the area. Motorists should expect delays.

Work details: This work is for pavement maintenance.​

Road Construction – Rocky Lake Drive

Location: Rocky Lake Drive, from Duke Street to Bedford Highway

Date:​ Sunday, April 24 (weather permitting)

Time: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Work details: This work is for pavement maintenance.​

Traffic impact: Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternative routes whenever possible.​

Traffic Delay – Dunbrack Street

Location: Dunbrack street, between Kearney Lake Road and Main Avenue

Date: Monday, April 25 until Friday, May 20

Time: 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for approximately four weeks

Work details: The lane closures are to accommodate maintenance on the rose bushes located in the median. The work will include weeding, mulching, general litter cleanup, and pruning down to a height of 12 inches for increased visibility and plant health.

Traffic Impact: Motorists can expect delays in the area and are asked to take alternative routes where possible.

Road Construction – Upper Water Street

Location: 2111 Upper Water Street and surrounding area

Date: Monday, April 25 to Sunday, July 31, 2022

Time: 24/7, including weekends

Work details: This work is for the excavation and installation of underground services near HMCS Scotian, in support of the​Cogswell District projectThis work is in preparation of construction of a by-pass road, which is expected to be in place in Summer 2022.

Traffic impact: Two way traffic will be maintained; however, there will be traffic changes, including lane drops, altered center lines to maintain one lane of traffic each way, and stop and go traffic at times. Traffic control personnel will be on-site. Motorists should expect delays.

NEW WORK

HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Akerley Boulevard, Dartmouth

Highway 107 from Akerley Boulevard to Highway 118 will be closed Saturday, April 23, and Sunday, April 24, from sunrise to noon for installation of overhead sign trusses at the Highway 107 Akerley Boulevard Interchange.

Traffic control is in place. A detour is available on John Savage Avenue and Wright Avenue.

Pictou County: Route 289 (Little Harbour Road)

Route 289 (Little Harbour Road), from the New Glasgow town line northerly to Route 348, will be reduced to one lane for paving and patching until Monday, August 31.

Work takes place from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Traffic control is on site.

CONTINUING WORK

ANTIGONISH COUNTY: Highway 104, James River

Highway 104, westbound lane about one kilometre west of James River Interchange, Exit 30, is reduced to one lane for about one kilometre.

Twinning work continues until 2023.

Signs are in place and drivers are encouraged to use caution.

CAPE BRETON REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Mira Gut Bridge, Mira Gut

Construction on Mira Gut Bridge will continue into the summer. Mira Bay Drive, from Brickyard Road to Mira Gut Lane, is limited to local traffic only.

Access to the beach parking area and washroom facilities will remain open during construction.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Burnett Bridge

Burnett Bridge, over MacLean Brook on Route 224 in Pine Grove/Gays River, is closed until further notice.

Detour signs and 30-tonne weight restriction are in place. All other trucks to follow posted truck route. Detour is via Saint Andrews River Road.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Old Truro Road, Tatamagouche

Old Truro Road, from Kennedy Hill intersection to the Cross Road in North River, is closed until further notice due to a large culvert failure.

A detour is in place.

GUYSBOROUGH COUNTY: Route 344 (Main Street), Mulgrave

Route 344/Main Street traffic is being re-routed onto the newly installed detour bridge.
The entrance to Mill Street from Main Street is closed, and drivers should use an alternate route. Signs are in place.

The detour will remain in place until August 31.

HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Akerley Boulevard, Dartmouth

Highway 107, from Highway 118 to Gloria McCluskey Ave., will have lane reductions for road construction until April 30, to allow for the opening of the new Akerley Boulevard.
Work takes place 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

HANTS COUNTY: Highway 101, Windsor

The eastbound off-ramp at Exit 6, Highway 101 is for the construction of a new interchange to downtown Windsor.

A detour is available via Exit 5A. The off-ramp will be closed until September 2023.

HANTS COUNTY: Hydes Bridge, Lantz

Hydes Bridge on Highway 277 is closed until further notice.

A detour is in place via Dutch Settlement Road, Elmsdale Road and Trunk 2. Signs are in place.

LUNENBURG COUNTY: Indian Path Bridge, Bayport

Indian Path Bridge, Route 332, is closed for replacement until October.

A detour is in place.

RICHMOND COUNTY: Port Royal Bridge, Isle Madame

Port Royal Bridge on Port Royal Road is closed until further notice. A detour is in place on MacEachern Road.
