Throughout the year, the RCMP in Nova Scotia respond to numerous break-ins to seasonal properties across the province

On March 6, 2022, Inverness County District RCMP responded to a break-in to a seasonal property on Lake Ainslie Chapel Rd. in Brook Village. Police learned that the main door of the cottage had been kicked in and that electronics were stolen. Police continue to gather information and evidence, and the investigation is ongoing.

Seasonal properties are often located in isolated areas, with decreased chances of criminal activity being noticed. The RCMP is offering tips to keep seasonal homes safe:

• Remove valuables (including firearms);
• Lock / secure all doors and windows;
• Close your curtains;
• Secure out buildings (e.g. garage or shed);
• Remove items that could be used to gain entry (e.g. hammers, crowbars, ladders);
• Have someone local check the property regularly;
• Consider installing security cameras or an alarm system;
• Ensure your property is well lit, with motion sensors and timers for lights.

Anyone with information about the incident in Brook Village is asked to contact the Inverness County District RCMP at 902-625-2220.
