New year, new free online wellness programs to improve your health
Are you looking for trusted information on living well and managing your health? Are you interested in developing knowledge and skills in healthy eating, physical activity, mental wellness, parenting, and reducing your health risks?
Nova Scotia Health offers a variety of online wellness programs for adults of all ages on healthyns.ca to help individuals manage and improve their health and well-being. The programs are free and open for anyone who lives in Nova Scotia.
“As we continue to navigate our way through the COVID-19 pandemic, maintaining a positive focus on health and wellness is very important,” said Sarah Manley, Operations Consultant with Nova Scotia Health’s Primary Care and Chronic Disease Management Network. “The pandemic has required us to look at how we deliver programs and we have been able to reach people across the province by offering the programs online.”
When the pandemic began in March 2020, Nova Scotia Health shifted from a mix of in-person and online programs to offering all of its wellness programs online. The wellness sessions are offered in a friendly group setting using Zoom for Healthcare, and are facilitated by trained volunteers and health care professionals.
“We have received very positive feedback from the program participants,” said Tina McPhee, Community Health Team Lead at Nova Scotia Health. “In fact, many of the programs fill up quickly so I would encourage people to check out what is available on healthyns.ca right away and then register for a program that meets their needs.”
A valid Nova Scotia health card number is required to register for most programs. Registration is now open. The first programs begin on January 18, with others starting at various dates over the next three months.
These programs will help empower individuals in the areas of Reducing Your Health Risks, Healthy Eating, Physical Activity, Mental Wellness and Parenting.
