Police advising of counterfeit American currency
The Financial Crime Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is advising local businesses and citizens of the presence of counterfeit American bills in the Halifax region.
In the past two weeks police have received five reports of counterfeit American $20 bills passed at local businesses.
It is a crime to make, pass or possess counterfeit money. It is always a good idea to check the security features in banknotes before accepting them. To learn more about security features on both Canadian and American banknotes visit:
Do not accept a bill you believe is counterfeit. Contact police at 902-490-5020 if you think you’ve received a counterfeit bill or if someone attempts to use a bill that appears to be counterfeit.
