Robie Street, Ochterloney Street and Crichton Avenue – Street Improvement Pilot Project

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that temporary curb extensions will be installed at a number of intersections over the coming days as part of the Street Improvement Pilot Project.

This pilot project includes temporary features designed to improve the safety and comfort of those walking, rolling, cycling and driving.

Temporary curb extensions will be installed at the following intersections:

  • Robie Street & Quinpool Road
  • Ochterloney Street & Victoria Road
  • Crichton Avenue & Oakdale Crescent

Work will take place on Crichton Avenue and Ochterloney Street on Thursday, Oct. 22 and will take place on Robie Street on Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24. Crews will be on-site between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Curb extensions reduce the width of the road by extending the curb into the roadway. The features are intended to improve safety for all road users by decreasing vehicular speeds, reducing pedestrian crossing distances, and improving sightlines for those driving.

These features are expected to remain in place until at least the winter of 2021.
