It was a busy night for our Hazardous Materials Team
At 5:07 PM, #hfxfirefighters from Station 8 responded to a business on Larry Uteck Blvd in Bedford after reports of a noxious substance in a local business. Our Hazardous Materials team was called in to assist. While several individuals reported respiratory symptoms, the substance had dissipated, and the exact source couldn’t be confirmed. The situation was brought under control.
Later that evening at 9:05 PM, our members from Station 58 in Timberlea responded to a carbon monoxide alarm on Marketway Lane. With support from the HazMat team, dangerously high levels of CO were detected in multiple homes—believed to be linked to blasting in the area. Three homes were evacuated, and crews remained on scene until 1:30 AM.
This is another reminder of how important carbon monoxide alarms are for your safety. Make sure yours is installed and working.
