The last 48 hours have put first responders to the test

Earlier this afternoon, the fire on Quinpool Road was officially declared out, bringing an end to nearly 40 hours of firefighting operations.

We’re proud of the work our members put in over nearly two full days to bring that incident to a close.

At 12:51 PM, HRM volunteer firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire at an automotive shop in Musquodoboit Harbour, just across the street from Station 24. Although that station is staffed with Halifax Professional Fire Fighters Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 5:30 PM, it was unstaffed at the time. The first arriving units made it to the scene in 10 minutes to find a fully involved structure with defensive fire conditions.

Then at 6:03 PM, #hfxfirefighters were dispatched to a mobile home fire on Bishop Avenue in Dartmouth. Our members from Station 13 (Downtown Dartmouth) arrived within six minutes, confirmed a working fire, and quickly began an interior attack. Due to unsafe electrical hazards, crews had to withdraw.

Today is a reminder of the challenges faced across HRM—and of the dedication and professionalism our members bring to every response.
