She’s a firefighter, a mom, and a natural soap maker. Jade tells us how she got into the soap making business and why natural soap is a healthy and safe choice for many!

* Hello.  Introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
Hi!
I am Jade, a minimalist, who loves everything “woo woo”.
I believe that life should be genuinely enjoyed, and whatever brings you happiness is what you should put your time and energy into.

I am a mom of two beautiful children, who found the art of natural skin care making almost 3 years ago. This passion has allowed me to meet some wonderful people, and hear inspiring stories from my clients, who are finally feeling relief from their long term skin conditions.

* This seems tricky. What got you into making your own soaps and why do you still do it?
I’ll make a long story very short.
It was 2021, I was 6 months pregnant and had just shut down my business of 10 years, we were in the thick of Covid, and I had a lot of free time on my hands that I had no idea what to do with.
I had an 8 year old at home who was suffering tremendously from eczema, and when I gave birth to my son, he too presented with skin conditions such as baby acne, dryness, and frequent rashes.
The store bought remedies either didn’t work, or just gave a “bandaid” effect, and I was shocked when I started reading into the ingredients.

Our skin is the largest organ, and our body’s protective armour, whatever you put on it gets absorbed, and when I read that store bought brands contained ingredients like formaldehydes, and pig fat, I vowed to never let it touch my skin, or my baby’s skin again.
* What would you say are the benefits of using a more natural soap?
There are so many benefits!
I will name the first 2 that come to mind.

1. Your skin is a living organ, and gets nourishment from living ingredients. When we treat our skin with these living ingredients, and nutrients it rewards us with reducing inflammation, increasing hydration, and ultimately looking younger and being healthier.
Who doesn’t want to look younger? Am I right?
2. Choosing handmade soap is not only better for your skin, but it is better for our environment. My soap is crafted in small batches without heavy machinery that mass manufacturing companies use. My soap is also vegan, and uses biodegradable ingredients that don’t harm the waterways when they are sent down the drain. The ingredients I use are also local, and sustainable, I purchase ingredients from other local artisans as much as possible to keep our local economy supported.
* What kind of varieties of soap do you make and what kind of differences are there?
One of the best things about soap making is the amount of creative output it brings!
There are literally endless possibilities!
My products are all vegan & cruelty free, but have many differences.
I have 30 different types of soap that range from hydrating, to detoxifying, from anti bacterial to fine line reducing, from fun and fruity soap made with freeze dried fruits, to spicy soap made with whiskey.
(Halloween specialty soap)
I even specialize in creating custom soap for parents & babies using the mother’s breast milk!
It is so much fun creating new formulas.
