Stunting driver also arrested for impaired driving
On August 31, at 9:40 p.m., a member of the Halifax District RCMP responded to a call of a speeding vehicle on Hwy. 102 in Goffs. The member stopped roadside and monitored traffic when they noticed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. They checked the speed and found t to be 174 km/h in a 110 km/hr zone. The member stopped the vehicle and noticed the driver was showing signs of impairment. The driver failed the Roadside Screening Device test and was arrested for impaired driving. The driver was taken to Lower Sackville Detachment for further breath samples.
The 22-year-old man from Lower Sackville is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Operating a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 mg%. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on October 28 on those charges. He was also charged with Stunting under the Provincial Motor Vehicle Act. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days and the driver’s licence was suspended. The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50.
The RCMP want to remind the public that speeding and Impaired Driving are one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads. Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well.
