RCMP charge man with impaired driving after collision on Hwy. 103
One person was arrested after a collision on Hwy. 103 in Maitland.
On July 13, at approximately 8 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision at a construction site on Hwy 103. Through investigation on scene, RCMP officers determined that a westbound Mazda 3 rear-ended a Ford Windstar at the construction site’s temporary traffic signal and then struck a parked excavator.
While interacting with officers, the driver of the Mazda, a 42-year-old New Glasgow man, exhibited signs of impairment. He was arrested and transported to the Cookville RCMP detachment where he provided breath samples that registered at 160mg%.
The man, who was traveling with one other person at the time of the collision, was later released. He is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on October 2, 2024, to face charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Impaired Operation over 80mg%.
The driver and passenger of the Ford, who were from Germany, were assessed by EHS, and the passenger was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Hwy. 103 was closed for over an hour while police investigated the cause of the collision and the scene was cleared of debris. Fire service and EHS also attended with RCMP.
Road safety is a priority for the Nova Scotia RCMP and we continue to encourage members of the public to call 911 if they suspect impaired driving. It could save a life.

Lunenburg District RCMP investigates fatal collision in Lunenburg County
Lunenburg District RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Franey Corner.
On July 14, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a motorcycle and an SUV pulling a trailer near the intersection of Forties Rd. and Barrs Corner Rd. Fire services and EHS also attended.
The driver and sole rider of the motorcycle, a 63-year-old man from Hants County, was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no injuries to the two occupants of the SUV.
The road was closed for several hours as RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (CARS) attended the scene. Lunenburg District RCMP continue to investigate, with assistance of CARS and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.
