Guysborough County District RCMP welcomes new District Commander

The Nova Scotia RCMP has appointed Sergeant Natasha Farrell as District Commander for the Guysborough County District.

“I have a passion for community policing and am looking forward to getting to know the unique needs of each area,” says Sgt. Farrell. “The great thing about the District of Guysborough is that the residents are already so involved. Through town halls and other forums, my team and I will get important input so that we can set goals and achieve the desired outcomes in each jurisdiction.”

Originally from Antigonish, Sgt. Farrell graduated from RCMP Depot in 2006. After graduation, she was posted to Fort McMurray, Alberta, where she worked in general duty before joining the Special Patrol Enforcement and Response Team and the General Investigative Section Persons Crime Unit.

In 2011, Sgt. Farrell moved to the Federal Policing team in Calgary. She also worked in the Drug Section and the Serious and Organized Crime unit before finishing her time out west with the National Security Enforcement Team.

A transfer back to her home province in 2015 brought Sgt. Farrell to Sherbrooke. And in 2018, she was promoted to Pictou County District as a general duty team leader. In 2021, Sgt. Farrell began leading the Community Action Team for the district. She’s currently part of the Nova Scotia RCMP Crisis Negotiation Team.

“My family hails from Antigonish and Guysborough counties,” says Sgt. Farrell. “I feel extremely fortunate to work in this part of the province; I spent so much of my childhood here, and I’m happy to serve the community in my current role.”
