LungNSPEI Increases Access to Pulmonary Rehabilitation With the Launch of a New Pilot Program
LungNSPEI, in collaboration with iMaster Health, is proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking pilot program aimed at enhancing accessibility to pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) and lung disease education for residents of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. “Living Well with Lung Disease: Virtual Pulmonary Rehabilitation & Education Pilot Program,” is an initiative that seeks to empower individuals with lung conditions to better manage their health and improve their quality of life.
Dr. Stephanie Connidis, Medical Director of the INSPIRED COPD program, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “This pilot program represents a significant step forward in addressing the need for accessible pulmonary rehabilitation services. By leveraging virtual platforms, we can overcome geographical and logistical barriers.”
Robert MacDonald, President and CEO of LungNSPEI, emphasized the importance of the program in addressing the current gaps in PR accessibility. “Despite the proven benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation, many Nova Scotians and Islanders face challenges in accessing these vital services. Through this pilot program, we aim to bridge these gaps and provide tailored support to individuals living with lung disease in our communities.”
Amanda Holyk, RRT and Founder of iMaster Health, highlighted the comprehensive nature of the program, stating, “Our premium platform offers a range of resources, from virtual exercise classes led by healthcare professionals to educational materials and personalized support. By empowering individuals with the tools they need to manage their condition, we can make a meaningful impact on their health and well-being.”
The pilot program will provide 50 individuals living with lung disease in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island with a one-year subscription to the iMaster Health platform. Participants will have access to bi-weekly virtual exercise classes, practitioner support, customized exercise videos, breathing techniques, educational materials, meal plans, and more. The program will also include regular evaluations to track participant progress and assess the program’s impact on their health and quality of life.
To ensure ongoing engagement, participants will receive regular reminders and updates via email and will have access to a virtual support forum, where they can connect with peers and share experiences.
Through ongoing evaluation and data collection, the pilot project aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of virtual pulmonary rehabilitation programming in increasing access to essential services and support for individuals living with lung disease.
