In photos – The heat is on! HRFE instructors were putting the latest CRT (career recruits) class to work today at the Waverley fire school
20 recruits, nearing the end of their extensive fire training to become HRFE firefighters, were put to the test in three realistic training scenarios today.
Regardless of the warm weather and unknown scenarios they faced, the eager recruits worked hard to rise up to the challenges.
Three rotations were repeated by the recruits. A fire control and search and rescue saw recruits use various tools to breach doors and windows, search in a near black and smoke filled environment as active fires rages inside to find and save victims while operating truck pump controls and communicating with command their progress.
Search and Rescue in dark and Smokey conditions allowed recruits to practice techniques that help firefighters in terrifying conditions both navigate the unknown and safe techniques for search and rescue, without the fire control aspect.
A third rotation saw recruits, soon to be graduating from their orange helmets, take part in wildfire fighting. This included use of various tools, different types of hoses and connectors, back tank use and more.
These recruits are set to graduate in June and have made tremendous progress. We wish them the best of luck, and thank them for their journey so far.
