Police Investigate Flight from Police and Weapons Possession

At 9:30 a.m. Halifax Regional Police officers and a Police Service responding to a vehicle collision at Victoria Road and Highfield Park Drive Dartmouth.​ A Police Service Dog Handler was requested and responded from Halifax and with emergency equipment activated crossing the MacDonald Bridge.​

While on the Bridge a Grey Mazda car in front of the Dog Handler took off at a high rate of speed, passing cars into oncoming traffic and failing to stop or pullover.​ The Dog Handler attempted to stop the vehicle, but lost sight of it at Wyse Road and Albro Lake Road.​ The Dog Handler continued to the original collision scene as requested.​ ​

Additional Patrol officers responded to the fleeing Mazda and located the vehicle in the 200 block of Windmill Road abandoned and confirmed the license plate is stolen.​

Officers located and arrested an adult female (19 yrs.) and a female youth (16 yrs.) nearby and observed a male running from the vehicle.​ Incidental to arrest officers located a prohibited Conducted Energy Weapon in the possession of the female youth.​ ​

The Police Service Dog and Handler attended the location of the abandoned vehicle and started searching for the male.​ The Police Service Dog located the male (21 yrs.) a short distance away from the vehicle hiding in bushes.

The adult female was released without charges.​ Both the adult male and female youth are held for court are facing the following Criminal charges:​

Adult male: Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Breach of Probation.

Female Youth: Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Breach of Probation.​
