Storm impacts on municipal services

The Halifax Regional Municipality is providing the following updates on municipal services impacts in advance of the forecasted weather event.

Overnight winter parking ban

The overnight winter parking ban will be enforced from 1 to 6 a.m. (in both Zone 1 – Central and Zone 2 – Non-Central), to allow crews to properly clear streets and sidewalks.

Vehicles must be parked off municipal streets during the hours noted above. Regardless of the status of an overnight winter parking ban, or whether you have received a notification, vehicles can be towed, day or night, at any time of year, if they are interfering with snow-clearing operations, as per Section 139 of the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act.

Parks & Recreation

Many municipal recreation facilities will be delaying opening on Monday, Jan. 29. A decision will be made at 10 a.m. (with potential re-opening at 12 p.m.) regarding whether rentals/facilities/programming activities will continue as scheduled.

For the most up-to date information, follow hfxrec on X or call your local recreation centre.

Solid Waste

Curbside collection will be cancelled on Monday, Jan. 29 due to the forecasted winter storm. Recovery collection will occur on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Community Safety

The Halifax Ground Search and Rescue team will be conducting wellness checks tonight and tomorrow to assess the safety of anyone who chooses not to leave an outdoor sheltering location.
