RCMP investigates serious two vehicle collision

Richmond County District RCMP is investigating a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred last evening.

At approximately 5:49 p.m., December 24, RCMP, EHS and Fire responded to the collision on 104 Hwy. near Whiteside where they located a VW Golf and a Toyota van with extensive damage. Initial investigation indicates the car travelling eastbound and the van travelling westbound collided.

A 42-year-old woman, the driver of the van, required extraction from the vehicle by Fire Services with apparent life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital. A 36-year-old man and 4 children ages 9, 7, 5, and 3 all suffered injury from serious to life-threatening were also transported to hospital by EHS. All occupants of the van are from Halifax. The driver of the car, 28-year-old man from New Brunswick, required extraction from the vehicle by Fire Services with apparent life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital. A dog was found deceased in the car.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

The highway has reopened after being closed for several hours.
