Police charge multiple impaired drivers over the weekend
Over the weekend, Halifax Regional Police officers from the Patrol Division and Traffic Unit conducted a number of check points and traffic stops throughout the region looking to take impaired drivers off the roadways.
Officers checked hundreds of vehicles and charged nine drivers for impaired driving and issued suspensions to two others. Of the 11 drivers, seven drivers were charged with impaired operation of a conveyance by alcohol, two were charged with refusal and two were issued a driving suspension for operating a conveyance while having consumed alcohol.
A quantity of cocaine was also seized from one of the drivers and they are scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
If you see a potential impaired driver, call 911 immediately and give the call taker your location along with a description of the vehicle, including the licence plate number, colour, make and model, the direction of travel for the vehicle and a description of the driver.
During the holiday season, we remind citizens to plan ahead and never drive impaired.
