Quinpool is Going to the Dogs!
Annual Pet Parade and SPCA Santa Pics Too
On Saturday, November 25th, pups, dogs, hounds, and pooches dressed in their finest holiday attire including reindeer antlers, Santa hats, ugly Christmas sweaters, jingle bells and tutus will take over Quinpool Road as they take a stroll down the street during Quinpool Road’s Annual Pet Parade.
Pets and their owners will meet Santa and other like-minded pooch lovers at the front of the Oxford Tap Room, 6418 Quinpool Road. The parade begins at 11 am and will be led by Santa Claus, Quincy (Quinpool’s Winter mascot), and a Halifax Regional Police Officer. The parade will take place on the sidewalk and will commence and end at The Oxford Tap Room where the SPCA Santa Pics will take place immediately afterwards from 12 noon to 2 pm.
Owners can have their pet’s photo taken by a professional photographer with Santa at a cost of $20.00 for a digital copy. All proceeds go to the SPCA for animals in need. The photographs will be taken on the heated and festively decorated back deck of the Oxford Tap Room.
“We are over-the-moon excited that the Quinpool Road Pet Parade and holiday pet portraits are back,” says Taylor Huestis, Communications & Development Officer at the Nova Scotia SPCA. “With the snow and colder weather coming, more and more animals will come through our doors, in need of love, care, and hope. Our shelters do not receive any government funding, so these events raise much-needed funds to help pets and families who need it most this holiday season.”
“Over the years these two events have become community favourites and each year more and more pups and their humans are participating,” says Karla Nicholson, Executive Director of the Quinpool Road Mainstreet District Association. “Many of the businesses on Quinpool are pet-friendly and these events reflect that feeling on the street,” she adds.
