Halifax District RCMP arrest three impaired drivers in less than 10 hours

Halifax District RCMP arrested three impaired drivers in less than 10 hours in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

On June 12, at approximately 12:35 p.m., a Halifax District RCMP officer was on patrol in Timberlea when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The RCMP officer noted the driver of the vehicle, a 56-year-old Lakeside man, had an odour of liquor on his breath. The man provided a sample of breath into an Approved Screening Device, which registered a fail. The man was arrested for impaired operation and was transported to the Tantallon Detachment, where he provided breath samples into an Approved Instrument; these samples were over the legal limit. The man was released from custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on August 16.

At approximately 7 p.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a complaint of a vehicle driving erratically on Hwy. 7 in East Preston. An RCMP officer was parked near Glasgow Rd. when they observed the suspect vehicle drive by them. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and noted the driver, a 22-year-old Upper Nine Mile River man, had an odour of liquor on his breath. The man provided a sample of breath into an Approved Screening Device, which registered a fail. The man was arrested for impaired operation and was transported to the Cole Harbour Detachment, where he provided breath samples into an Approved Instrument; these samples were over the legal limit. The man was released from custody and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on July 24.

At approximately 10:20 p.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a report of two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 7 in Westphal. RCMP officers learned that a vehicle had been in the yield lane on Forest Hills Pkwy., attempting to merge into traffic on Hwy. 7., when the vehicle was struck from behind by another vehicle. An RCMP officer noted the driver of the second vehicle, a 24-year-old Eastern Passage woman, had an odour of liquor on her breath. The woman provided a sample of breath into an Approved Screening Device, which registered a fail. The woman was arrested for impaired operation and was transported to the Cole Harbour Detachment, where she provided breath samples into an Approved Instrument; these samples were over the legal limit. The woman was released from custody and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.

Each year, thousands of Canadians are injured or killed by impaired drivers. The Nova Scotia RCMP reminds motorists to drive sober and to call 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver on the road.
