Municipal fires and impacts update – June 7, 8:10 p.m.

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following evacuation area update. The municipality has started the recovery phase. Residents can continue to expect regular updates summarizing key developments.

The municipality will announce a confirmed date and time tomorrow, Thursday, June 8, for when most residents in Phase 3, whose homes are outside of the area of significant impact, can return to their homes.

It is anticipated that the return date and time will be prior to the afternoon of Friday, June 9. In order to meet this timeline, the municipality must complete its review of municipal and utility infrastructure, as well as install appropriate traffic controls through fire-damaged areas to allow for safe access.

Residents located within the area of significant impact should be able to return within the next 10 days, once temporary surface fencing has been installed around destroyed properties, in accordance with the provincial Fire Safety Act.
