Wildfire Relief Benefit – June 11th, 2023
Nova Scotia’s musicians and supporters wish to help those in need and they have organized a “Wildfire Relief Benefit” with many of our wonderful multi-award winning artists.
Singer-Songwriter Robert Campbell was watching the Halifax and Barrington wildfires explode. He had a personal reaction because as an 11 year old he watched his brand new family home razed by fire in less than 45 minutes. He made a social media post which included a song he wrote about the experience and talked about the long term effects these events have on people. The response and comments had him reach out to other artists, including Maruice Aucoin who also wanted to create a fundraiser because a friend was directly affected, and the benefit was underway.
Response was swift and the venue owner, Nancy Nazaryan at Monte’s Showbar, was happy to assist with providing a great space for 8 hours of non-stop music. Robert & Maurice sent a few messages and In 24 hours the list of artists was complete!
Many volunteers have stepped up to assist and the event will be livestreamed as well.
The event will have various ways to contribute: donations at the door (with door prizes!), 50/50 draw.
ALL proceeds will go to the Red Cross Wildfire Relief fund for Nova Scotia. These funds will be matched by the Federal Government and, at time of writing we are waiting for the Provincial government to confirm the matching grant. This means we can triple our impact for the Red Cross initiatives
