Cape Breton Missing Person Case Added to Rewards Program

Police and the government are asking for the public’s help with the unsolved missing person case of Michael Gerald Steele.

Mr. Steele was last seen March 13, 2019, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, where he was visiting his mother. He was 39 years old at the time and described as white, about five feet eight inches tall and 155 pounds with short brown hair and blue eyes.

Investigators believe there are people who may have information that could result in locating Mr. Steele.

“We hope that by adding Mr. Steele to the rewards program, we will receive new information that could help solve this case,” said Brad Johns, Attorney General and Minister of Justice. “Investigators are asking for the public’s help on behalf of the family. I urge anyone with information to please come forward.”

Anyone who shares information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Mr. Steele’s disappearance could receive up to $150,000 through the Province’s Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes program. People with information can call the program line at 1-888-710-9090.

Anyone with information on this case who prefers to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers of Nova Scotia at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The Province of Nova Scotia is offering a reward in the amount of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the missing person case of Michael Gerald Steele.

Mr. Steele was last seen at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital visiting his mother on March 13, 2019. He is described as white, about five feet, eight inches tall and 155 pounds with short brown hair and blue eyes.

Investigators believe there are people who have information they have not offered to the police that could result in arrests and possible charges.

Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for the missing persons case of Michael Gerald STEELE should call the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program at 1-888-710-9090.

The reward is payable in Canadian funds and will be apportioned as deemed just by the Minister of Justice for the Province of Nova Scotia. Employees of law enforcement and correctional agencies are not eligible to collect this reward.
