Trench rescue training puts HRFE members to the test

Media observe a trench rescue course for Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency’s Technical Rescue Team.

Trench rescue training provides rescuers with the ability to rescue trapped individuals in complex trench scenarios and emergency scenes.

The demonstration was held in Hammonds Plains and involved HRFE members with members of HUSAR (Heavy rescue search and rescue) who faced a realistic victim recovery in a very possible trench scenario.

Crews broke into teams which involved medical, support and structure, and many other technical tasks.

Technical knowledge of various tools and equipment and a knowledge of environmental factors are a must know for rescue in a wide mix of environments including weather factors, seismic and soil / material factors and more.

EHS were also on scene demonstrating necessary medical skills and interactions with fire rescue to provide emergency and dangerous services before, during and after the rescue has been completed.
