Police lay drug and firearms charges

Police have laid drug and firearms charges after the search of a vehicle and a residence this week.

On May 16 at approximately 6:15 p.m. East Division Patrol members attempted to stop a vehicle in the 200 block of Windmill Road in relation to an ongoing investigation. The vehicle fled from police and officers pursued it for a short time and then concluded the pursuit due to public safety concerns.

The suspect vehicle struck another vehicle in the area of Windmill and Victoria roads and then fled the scene of the collision. There were no reported injuries in relation to the collision.

Officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later in the parking lot of a business in the 500 block of Windmill Road. Officers arrested the driver near the vehicle and a passenger was arrested in the area by a HRP K9 team. Officers seized brass knuckles, firearm magazines, ammunition, and a quantity of cocaine and cannabis.

Yesterday investigators with the Guns and Gangs Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division conducted a search of a residence on White Hills Run in Hammonds Plains in relation to the investigation. Officers arrested a man and seized three firearms, ammunition, and a quantity of cannabis products.

Brady Andrew Chatman, 21, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court today to face charges of:

    • Possession for the purposes of trafficking (x3)
  • Possession of cannabis for purpose of selling
  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Failing to stop after an accident
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of restricted ammunition without a license

A 20-year-old woman will appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unsafe storage of ammunition

A 50-year-old man will appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
