Annapolis Valley man faces several charges after North Kentville incident
On May 12, at approximately 12:30 p.m., two members of the Kings District Street Crime Enforcement Unit attempted to arrest a man for numerous outstanding charges, including aggravated assault and assault on a police officer.
When officers approached the man, he got into a vehicle and a struggle ensued. One officer deployed a conducted energy weapon unsuccessfully. The suspect then sprayed a large quantity of bear spray at the officers, hitting both, and fled into a nearby residence.
Arriving backup officers contained the man inside the home on Stephen Crt. in North Kentville. While throwing items at officers through the window, the man was seen brandishing a large knife.
The Nova Scotia RCMP’s Emergency Response Team attended the scene, along with Police Dog Services. Multiple response tactics, including the use of an RCMP negotiator, were employed. At approximately 5:15 p.m., the subject exited the residence and surrendered.
Twenty-five-year-old Kyle Trahan, of the Annapolis Valley area, is facing seven new criminal charges as a result of the May 12 incident:
- Assault of a Peace Officer (x2)
- Assault with a Weapon (x2)
- Uttering Threats (x2)
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
After his arrest, Trahan was taken to hospital for the treatment of minor self-inflicted injuries. He was remanded into custody and will appear in Kentville Provincial Court on May 15 for a bail hearing.
