Colchester County District RCMP charge man after incident in Hilden

Colchester County District RCMP has charged a man after an incident in Hilden.

On April 27, 2023, at approximately 7:40 p.m., Colchester County District RCMP responded to a report of a man that had threated to burn down a home and exposed himself to a number of people, including children, on Kennedy Rd. in Hilden. As RCMP officers were responding, they received an update that the man had now armed himself with a rifle.

Colchester County District RCMP officers, with assistance from the Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), East Hants District RCMP, Sipekne’katik RCMP and Millbrook RCMP, secured the area and confirmed that the man was contained. RCMP officers established communication with the man in an effort to resolve the incident peacefully.

At approximately 9:50 p.m., the man was safely taken into custody by RCMP ERT members and transported to the Bible Hill Detachment where he was held in cells.

The house was cleared and no one else was found inside. RCMP officers determined that the involved rifle was an Air Soft rifle, which is an imitation firearm. No one was injured as a result of this incident.

Andrew William Kolstee, 42, of Brookfield, has been charged with Uttering Threats (2 counts), Pointing a Firearm, Using an Imitation Firearm in the Commission of an Offence and Committing an Indecent Act.

Kolstee was remanded in custody and will appear in Truro Provincial Court on May 1, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.

RCMP officers remained at the scene today, executed a search warrant and located two imitation firearms, one of which is believed to have been used during the incident.
