Weekly Traffic Advisories (Apr 28) 

Note: Each week the local listings are expanded and updated. During the week new and updated tasks are added. Every week a new post is started with fresh info but previous posts may be still valid.

Traffic Delay – Jubilee Road

Location: Jubilee Road, between Chestnut and Walnut streets

Date: Friday, May 5

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: Traffic delays will be in place to facilitate underground utility work.

Traffic impact: Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway. The sidewalk on the south side will be closed. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Closure – Upper Water Street

Location: Upper Water Street at Duke Street (in front of Historic Properties)

Date: Friday, April 28 to Monday, May 1 Friday, May 12 to Monday, May 15

Time: 9 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday

Work details: This is the first second of several closures along this segment to allow for the installation of new sidewalk, bike lanes, and asphalt in front of Historic Properties. This work is in support of the Cogswell District project.

Traffic impact: Residents will be directed around the construction area by signs and traffic control personnel. A marked detour will be in place from Upper Water and Duke streets to Upper Water and Barrington streets, near the Baton Rouge restaurant.

Northbound vehicular traffic on Upper Water Street will be detoured west at Duke Street to Barrington Street. Transport trucks travelling northbound will detour at Lower Water Street moving west on Morris Street.

Cyclists will be required to share the road with vehicular traffic and follow the detour signs in place. Access to businesses will be maintained. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes.

Traffic Delay – Main Street

Location: Main Street, between Woodland Avenue and Fader Street

Date: Tuesday, May 2

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: Traffic delays will be in place to facilitate underground utility work.

Traffic impact: Main Street, between Woodland Avenue and Fader Street, will be reduced by one lane of traffic in each direction. One sidewalk will remain open at all times. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Traffic Delay – Robie Street

Location: Intersection of Robie Street and North Street

Dates: Tuesday, May 2 to Friday, May 5

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This is to perform maintenance on pedestrian signalsThis work supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Closure – Argyle Street

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that Argyle Street, between Prince and Blowers streets, will be closed to motor vehicle traffic beginning Tuesday, May 2 at 8 a.m. until Monday, November 13 at 8 a.m.

Argyle Street will remain fully open to people walking, rolling and cycling. Access to all stores and restaurants will be maintained.

This is a seasonal closure, similar to previous years, and is intended to allow part of downtown to be more accessible for residents and visitors during the warmer months. It does not involve any construction.

Road Construction – Cow Bay Road

Location: Cow Bay Road, between Dyke and Bissett roads and Bissett Road and the Rainbow Haven Park bridge

Date: May 1 until June 12

Time: Weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This work is related to asphalt and shoulder repair. This project supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to take alternative routes whenever possible.

Heads up drivers! The MacKay Bridge north lane and exit to Robie / Windsor Street Exchange will be CLOSED this weekend starting at 7 pm, April 28 until May 1 5:30am.

NEW WORK

CAPE BRETON REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Highway 105, North Sydney

The intersection of Highway 105 and Tobin Road is reduced to one lane for roadwork until July 31.

Traffic control is on-site. Work takes place on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

CONTINUING WORK

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Old Truro Road, Tatamagouche

Old Truro Road, from Kennedy Hill intersection to the Cross Road in North River, is closed until further notice due to a large culvert failure.

A detour is in place.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Salmon River Bridge, Truro

Salmon River Bridge, on Highway 102 between exits 14 and 14A, is reduced to one lane northbound until October, due to work on the bridge decking.

Traffic control is on-site. Work takes place weekdays from sunrise to sunset.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Slade Road, Tatamagouche

Slade Road is closed between Lake Road and West Tatamagouche Road until further notice due to a bridge closure.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY: Apple River Bridge

Apple River Bridge, on Shulie Road between Advocate and Joggins, is closed until further notice due to structural damage.

Signs and a detour are in place.

HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Highway 102, Bedford/Lower Sackville

Highway 102, from Exit 4A to Exit 4C, has lane reductions and intermittent road closures on the northbound and southbound highway for the construction of the Highway 107-Highway 102 Interchange.

Highway 102 northbound and southbound, Highway 101, Bedford Highway, Bedford Bypass, Duke Street, Glendale Avenue and Sackville Drive have intermittent road closures for blasting until June 30.

Traffic control will be on-site. Road closures for blasting occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday to Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. Lane reductions occur from sunrise to sunset Monday to Thursday and from sunrise to noon on Friday.

HANTS COUNTY: Highway 101, Windsor

The eastbound off-ramp at Exit 6, Highway 101, is closed for the construction of a new interchange to downtown Windsor.

A detour is available via Exit 5A. The off-ramp is closed until September.

HANTS COUNTY: Hydes Bridge, Lantz

Hydes Bridge on Highway 277 is closed until further notice.

A detour is in place via Dutch Settlement Road, Elmsdale Road and Trunk 2. Signs are in place.

LUNENBURG COUNTY: Indian Path Bridge, Bayport

Indian Path Bridge, Route 332, is closed for replacement until further notice.

A detour is in place.

PICTOU COUNTY: Highway 104, Barneys River

The new Barneys River Interchange will be used to detour Highway 104 traffic until May 31, to prepare for the opening of the new highway.

Signs will direct drivers through the roundabouts. Approaching traffic must yield to traffic already in the roundabout.

PICTOU COUNTY: Oak Road, Eureka

Oak Road will be closed between Route 374 and East River West Side Road for road work.  The work is expected to be complete by 6 p.m. on Monday, May 1.

Detour signs will be in place.

RICHMOND COUNTY: Port Royal Bridge, Isle Madame

Port Royal Bridge on Port Royal Road is closed until further notice. A detour is in place on MacEachern Road.
