Police lay charges in assault

Police have laid charges in relation to an assault that occurred yesterday in Halifax.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. police responded to a report of an assault that had just occurred at an apartment building on Vimy Avenue. A man went to another apartment and struck the tenant with a wooden object after the tenant complained about the noise coming from his apartment.

The man fled on foot from officers and assaulted two officers before being arrested. The officers and the tenant were treated by EHS at the scene.

Dominic Caldi, 30, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face the following charges:

  • Assaulting a peace officer (x2)
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Resist arrest
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Failing to comply with a release order
  • Uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death
