Meet Lexi!

Lexi has been enjoying some time in a foster home as shelter life can be a little overwhelming for a girl that prefers being with people and is looking to be the only pet in the home so she can have all the attention.

This is what her foster family had to say about her:

I might be an older gal but I’m still a puppy at heart! I love to go for walks, play (especially tug-of-war with my stuffed animals!), and do tricks for treats! I know commands like ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘paw’ (and ‘other paw’) and I’m having fun learning some more!

I’ve been told that I’m very sweet, smart, and really well behaved in the house. My foster parent says that in 2+ months I’ve never had an accident in the house, and I pick up on and follow “house rules” pretty quickly. I’m easy going, and between my walks you can find me mostly relaxing and snoozin’. I’m mostly quiet, however, if I see or hear something interesting outside or someone I don’t yet know comes into the house, I will sound the barking alarms.

I’m a “people” dog. I love to be near my people, whether that’s snuggling next to them on the couch, or being on my doggie bed near them. I do have some separation anxiety, so I would benefit from being in a home where I’m not left alone for very long.

I am dog (and cat) reactive, so I need to be the only pet in the house (no apartments or condos). That means I can’t go to dog parks, and that while out for walks I will react to other dogs by barking, growling, pulling, and lunging (don’t underestimate me because of my age- I am very strong- so for my walks I need a strong and experienced walker). I’d benefit being in a home that’s willing to work on my dog reactivity with me and has some fenced in outdoor space.

If you are interested in meeting Lexi, please fill out the adoption application at the link below: https://www.novascotiaspca.ca/cat-adoption-application/
Staff from the Dartmouth SPCA will be in touch to set up a meeting at her foster home.
