Colchester County District RCMP charge man with firearms offences
Colchester County District RCMP has charged a man with firearms offences after a search warrant was executed in Lower Onslow.
On March 16, 2023, Colchester County District RCMP received a report that a man, who does not have a firearms license, was in possession of firearms at a home on Hwy. 2 in Lower Onslow. RCMP officers began investigating and learned that the man was also subject to a lifetime firearms prohibition due to a Robbery conviction in 2006.
On March 17, a search warrant was executed on the home with the assistance of the Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team and RCMP Police Dog Services. RCMP officers located the man at the home and safely arrested him. RCMP officers located and seized two rifles, a revolver, a crossbow and ammunition.
Andrew Matthew Douglas Maloney, 37, of Lower Onslow, has been charged with:
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition;
- Tampering with a Serial Number;
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Firearm;
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized;
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (2 counts);
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized (2 counts);
- Careless Storage of a Firearm (2 counts);
- Careless Storage of Ammunition (2 counts);
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm;
- Possession of a Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order
Maloney was remanded into custody and will appear in Truro Provincial Court later today.

Cumberland County District RCMP investigating serious off-road vehicle crash
Cumberland County District RCMP is investigating an off-road vehicle crash that occurred on Thompson Rd. in Birchwood.
On March 19, 2023, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Cumberland County District RCMP, fire and EHS responded to a report of an off-road vehicle crash on Thompson Rd. in Birchwood. RCMP officers learned that a side-by-side had been traveling down Thompson Rd. when it left the roadway, struck a power pole and came to rest in a ditch.
The driver, and sole occupant of the side-by-side, a 51-year-old Pugwash woman suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. She was later transported to a hospital in Halifax by LifeFlight.
The investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing.
