Special weather statement in effect

Significant mixed precipitation is expected on Thursday.

General snow and ice pellets amounts: 5 to 10 cm.

Rainfall: 10 to 15 mm along the Atlantic coast.

Locations: Nova Scotia.

Time span: Wednesday night through Thursday.

Similar storms in the past have caused traffic delays and hazardous driving conditions.

Remarks: A weather system will spread mixed precipitation across the province Wednesday night and Thursday.

Rain will prevail along the South Shore, but over inland areas temperatures should remain near the freezing mark which will likely result in freezing rain. Roadways could become slippery. For the rest of the Atlantic coast, Snow and ice pellets should begin early Thursday and then transition to rain.

For Annapolis Valley, Central, northern regions, and Cape Breton, precipitation will begin as snow but will become mixed with ice pellets. Amounts could locally exceed 10 cm.

Travel could become difficult. If you must travel, be prepared for delays and allow extra time to reach your destination.
