Police continue historical sexual assault investigation

Police are continuing the investigation into a report of a historical sexual assault in Halifax in 2003 and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

On July 21, 2022, police received a report in relation to a sexual assault that is alleged to have occurred during the time the 2003 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Hockey Tournament was taking place in Halifax.

Investigators from the Sexual Assault Investigative Team of the Special Victims Section are leading the investigation. Historical sexual assault investigations are complex, and investigators are pursuing numerous avenues and taking the necessary time to conduct a thorough investigation.

We thank everyone who has come forward to assist the investigation. We ask anyone with information who has not yet shared what they know with investigators to contact police by calling 902-490-5020.

It is important to remember that there is no statute of limitation on sexual assaults, and we encourage anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault to contact police. We want victims to know that they will be treated with compassion, dignity and respect throughout the entire investigative process.
