Municipal service level adjustments for 2022 Thanksgiving Day

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that the following service level adjustments will be in place over the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend:

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours

No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Thanksgiving Day, Monday, October 10. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Monday, October 10 will instead occur the previous Saturday, October 8. Residents are asked to place materials curbside prior to 7 a.m. on collection day, ensuring materials are contained and secured from wildlife until pickup.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, Halifax recycling facility and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Monday, October 10, but will be open for regular hours on Saturday, October 8.

The Household Special Waste Depot, located at 20 Horseshoe Lake Drive, will be closed on Saturday, October 8, but will be open on Saturday, October 15.​ Additionally, a mobile Household Special Waste event will be held on Saturday, October 8 at Mic Mac Mall in Dartmouth from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services

Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday service on Monday, October 10.

The Alderney Ferry service will run at half-hour frequency on Monday, October 10. The first crossing will depart the Alderney terminal at 7:30 a.m. and the final crossing will depart the Halifax terminal at 11:45 p.m. There will be no Woodside ferry service on Monday, October 10.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services


Most municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, October 10. Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information. Contact information for municipally-operated facilities is available online.

Parking

On-street paid parking will be free on Monday, October 10. Motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage, including no stopping, accessible parking spaces and no parking zones.

Customer Contact Centres

The 311 Call Centre will be operating during regular hours, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Monday, October 10. The Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Monday, October 10, and will re-open for regular business hours on Tuesday, October 11.
